Liverpool ear wax removal

Professional ear wax removal in Liverpool

Blocked, muffled or uncomfortable ears are rarely something to worry about, and they are usually quick to put right. Carl Heffy removes ear wax gently and safely at the West Derby clinic, with same-week appointments across Liverpool and Merseyside.

What to expect

Four calm steps, around 15 to 30 minutes

There is no rush. Carl works at a steady pace, explains each step, and stops the moment you want him to.

  1. 1

    A careful look first

Carl uses an otoscope to look inside your ear canal and confirm whether wax is present and how best to remove it safely.

  2. 2

    Gentle suction, precisely applied

A fine, soft probe lifts the wax away with controlled suction. No water, no syringe, and no contact with the sensitive skin of the canal.

  3. 3

    Instant clearance, confirmed

Carl checks the canal again to confirm it is clear. Most people notice an immediate improvement in their hearing.

  4. 4

    Simple aftercare advice

Before you leave, Carl explains how to care for your ears and whether a follow-up is worth considering. Most patients leave with no restrictions.

Why patients choose Carl

Careful, local, and genuinely reassuring

If you have been putting off ear wax removal, you are not alone. Many of Carl's patients arrive a little nervous and leave wondering why they waited.

A named specialist, not a call centre

You book with Carl, and Carl carries out your assessment and removal himself. You always know exactly who you are seeing.

Gentle, dry microsuction

Microsuction uses controlled suction rather than water. It is precise, comfortable, and leaves your ear dry and settled afterwards.

No NHS waiting list

Many GP practices no longer remove ear wax routinely. Carl offers private appointments, often within the same week.

Transparent, fixed pricing

Your price is confirmed when you book. No hidden charges and no surprise fees when you arrive.

Hearing aid friendly

Hearing aid users build up wax more quickly. Microsuction clears the canal without putting your aids or moulds at risk.

How we can help

Symptoms that may be caused by ear wax

If any of these sound familiar, a professional ear check is a sensible first step. Carl looks inside before any treatment and only goes ahead if removal is right for you.

  • Blocked or muffled hearing that came on gradually
  • A feeling of fullness or pressure deep in the ear
  • Tinnitus, such as ringing or buzzing, that may be caused by wax
  • Hearing aids that whistle or no longer perform well
  • Ears that feel blocked after swimming or showering
  • Itching or mild discomfort inside the ear canal

Ear wax removal addresses wax related symptoms. If your hearing loss or discomfort has another cause, Carl will advise you to see a GP or audiologist.

Clear, upfront pricing

You will know the price before you arrive

No hidden fees and no surprise charges when you take a seat. Your fee is confirmed at the time of booking, so there is nothing to work out on the day.

Good to know

Ear wax removal questions, answered

Is microsuction ear wax removal safe?
Yes. Microsuction is widely considered the safest method of professional ear wax removal. It uses gentle, controlled suction to clear wax while Carl views the ear canal the whole time. No water enters the ear and the probe does not need to touch the canal walls.
Does ear wax removal hurt?
For most people microsuction is not painful. You may hear a soft suction sound and feel a light sensation of movement, but there is no sharp pain. Carl works carefully and will pause at any point if you feel uneasy.
How long does an appointment take?
A typical appointment takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how much wax is present and whether one or both ears are treated. The check at the start adds only a few minutes.
How do I know if I have a wax build-up?
Common signs include muffled or reduced hearing that came on gradually, a feeling of fullness or pressure, new or worsening tinnitus, itching in the canal, or hearing aids that whistle or underperform. A quick professional look confirms whether wax is the cause.
Can you remove wax for hearing aid wearers?
Yes. Hearing aid users tend to build up wax more quickly because the aid blocks its natural exit. Microsuction is ideal because it is precise and water-free and does not put your hearing aid mould at risk.
What if there is no wax when I arrive?
Carl checks the ear canal before doing anything. If there is no wax, or the wax does not need removing, he will tell you honestly and will not carry out a procedure you do not need.
Do I need to use ear drops before my appointment?
Softening drops such as olive oil can help with very hard or impacted wax, but for most people they are helpful rather than essential. If your wax has been building for a long time, Carl may suggest a few days of drops first. Call 07305 965131 if you are unsure.
Can I drive after ear wax removal?
Yes, for the vast majority of patients. Microsuction involves no sedation or medication, so your ability to drive is not affected. On rare occasions a brief, mild dizziness can occur, but it usually passes within a few minutes.
How often should I have my ears cleaned?
There is no single rule. Some people never need it; others build up wax quickly and benefit from a visit every six to twelve months. Hearing aid users usually need more frequent checks. When symptoms return, that is a good prompt to book.
What areas do you cover?
The clinic is in West Derby, L12, and comfortably serves patients within about ten miles. That includes Old Swan, Tuebrook, Norris Green, Croxteth, Huyton, Childwall, Wavertree, Woolton, Walton, Anfield and many more. See the Areas We Cover page for the full list.
Where is the clinic and is there parking?
Appointments are at St Marys Millennium Centre in West Derby village, Liverpool, L12 5EA, a trusted community hub. It is reachable by car and bus with parking nearby.
